After my father, a professional writer and accomplished photographer, died in 2004 I had all of his negatives, transparencies, and prints shipped down from his home in Maryland to my home in Naples, Florida. My dad was incredibly gifted as a photographer and was especially drawn to black and white photography.
A few weeks after his death, I began painting a series of colorful canvases inspired by his black and white photographs. I call this collection “LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON” as I feel I get my artistic talent from him. But, more importantly, I realized that creating these paintings helped me through the grieving process. I was comforted by the whole act of creating and felt closer to my father. Now I am reminded of him every time I looked at one of my paintings hanging in my home. Today, I feel I am able to “pay it forward” by producing the COMPANIONSHIP MASTERPIECES series of original artworks for people who, like me, have suffered the loss of a loved one. I hope to bring comfort to those grieving by creating a loving tribute of original artwork incorporating the cremated remains of their loved one. It’s my hope that these artworks will help bring peace and comfort to those left behind. |
